All six BANS Trustees share a common wish, to help others enjoy an active and sociable time, breaking down barriers and showing what can be done on what equipment. We do this by offering fully supported gentle cycling in small groups. Each of us is community-spirited and brings varying skills, knowledge, and experience to enable the whole BANS team to develop and enjoy what we do.
We ensure, through good governance and affiliation with national organisations, that we run the charity as everybody would expect us to - in a responsible, professional and inclusive way.
Ultimately we love getting out and supporting our clients and volunteers at our cycling sessions. Our ambitions are not only to ensure a sustainable, long-lasting service provision but also to make cycling accessible and enjoyable to all.
We encourage all our volunteers to enjoy, learn, and develop as they wish; we are always keen to hear from prospective new volunteers. You don't have to be a cyclist, and we certainly don't sprint! Roles and responsibilities include supporting us with admin, equipment maintenance, and events and, of course, the all-important delivery of cycling sessions. If you are interested, simply drop us a line to info@bansuffolk.co.uk, or pop along to a session, have a chat and see what we do.

David is a keen swimmer and cyclist - both for fundraising and personal enjoyment. He's into loads of practical, constructive things and also enjoys reading and walking.
David has done numerous volunteering roles, including healthcare, the environment, disability cycling groups in Norfolk & Suffolk, and is also a STEM Ambassador.
His career was 33 years in the power industry, reaching Chartered Eng status. David also spent 2 ½ years in the global insurance industry.
David takes the lead on strategy, compliance, and engagement, and he really values all who volunteer.
Phil's working life was in the power industry, starting at Aberthaw Power Station in South Wales, transferring to Hinkley Point, and then moving to Suffolk to work at Sizewell Power Station until he had to medically retire in 2021 due to failing eyesight.
His biggest passion is cycling, which has a great benefit to his mental health. He has ridden many long rides to raise money for various charities, including cycling from Halesworth to Cardiff and Land's End to John O'Groats.
Phil's other passion is classic cars; his current project is restoring a MK2 Jaguar.
Phil's role with BANS includes ensuring our cycle fleet is maintained in optimum condition at all times.
Steve is a keen 'recreational' cyclist and can often be found out and about on the quiet country lanes around East Suffolk.
Steve also enjoys the theatre, live music, cinema and travelling. With plenty of short and long haul trips under his belt and many more on his wishlist. He always trys to fit in a cycle ride when away, highlights have been Southern India and the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in Queensland.
After a career that started in hospitality and ended in commercial property and estate management, Steve now makes sure we keep our finances in order and supports us in other areas such as our IT, website and social media.
Michelle spent her working life in the electricity generation industry.
She now divides her time volunteering with BANS, a local walking group and at a local theatre. Any spare time is spent walking, trying to get fit at the gym, travelling, and enjoying restaurants & theatre.
Cycling is not her favourite sport; in fact, some say she herself ‘cheats’ by using an e-bike. Her role is normally ‘meet & greet’ at the BANS sessions - she likes to see the smile on the clients faces when they return from a ride & receive the positive feedback from them.
